Have you ever made a "Pittsburgh Left" in front of another car at a traffic light?

Do you get annoyed when a car makes a "Pittsburgh left?"

Does your blood boil when somebody slows down before going in (or coming out) of a tunnel?

Pittsburghers deal with frustrating behavior on the roads every day -- but not as much as we may think, according to a report that calls us the most courteous drivers in the country.
Read The Survey

The annual "In The Driver's Seat Road Rage Survey" by AutoVantage found that people in Pittsburgh were least likely to see the following causes of rage while driving:
  • Talking on cell phone (39 percent)
  • Tailgating (39 percent)
  • Eating/drinking (36 percent)
  • Cutting over without notice (28 percent)
  • Slamming on the brakes (19 percent)
  • Running red lights (13 percent)

Pittsburgh drivers also ranked low in driving too fast, and texting or e-mailing while driving, according to the survey.

On the other hand, the survey found Pittsburgh drivers were the second most likely to admit multitasking -- such as putting on makeup, shaving or reading.

The survey found drivers in Miami to be the least courteous.

Here's what you're saying so far in your e-mails:

This really should not come at a surprise - low volumes of cell phone usage including texting and emailing. The city's population is one of the oldest with a large percentage of senior citizens - you're lucky if they even know what a cell phone is, let alone be able to see the car in front of them in order to tailgate.

Nicest??? I’m wondering how much someone had to pay for THAT ‘study’! Absolutely NOT. Try crossing the intersection of 11th and Smallman someday while the pedestrian crossing sign is lit and the drivers continue to weave through the pedestrians as if they are orange cones on an obstacle course.
Guests from out of town have commented on the rude drivers who use their cars as battering rams.
The city is not friendly to any form of transportation other than car or bus. To say that Pittsburghers are not likely to encounter rage while drivers are talking on the phone or eating or other multi-tasking is probably correct -- most do not multi-task while they are running you down, they’re single-mindedly rude.
