Three helicopters and six ambulances were called to a collision involving a sport utility vehicle and a car in Armstrong County late Monday evening.

Two people were flown to the hospital after a collision at Market and Main streets in Leechburg.

The vehicles collided at Market and Main streets in Leechburg, emergency officials told WTAE Channel 4 Action News.

Witnesses told Channel 4 Action News that it was the worst crash they've ever seen in the city.

"The SUC hit the little compact on the driver's side head-on. And it just smashed the whole side in. And those are the ones they had to cut out, they were trapped between the seats, steering wheel, dashboard, you know, like that," said one man who wasn't identified who saw the crash.

Police have not released the names of the people involved in the crash.

Emergency officials did say that a 27-year-old woman who was in the back seat of one of the vehicles was alert and talking when she was flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital with facial injuries.

A 24-year-old woman, who was the driver of one of the cars, was also alert and talking when she was flown to the same hospital with possible back injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
