Businesses Eagerly Await Children's Hospital's OpeningPittsburgh Hospital Plans Mock Patient Move To PreparePOSTED: 9:46 am EDT April 19, 2009 PITTSBURGH -- The new Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is conducting its second mock patient move Sunday before its massive move across town this month. The new, colorful building is spacious and high tech, and it will certainly have an impact on its new neighborhood in Lawrenceville, which is preparing for the very big and very busy new neighbor. Some nearby businesses in Bloomfield are eagerly counting down the days when the facility opens as administrators prepare the 10-acre site off the corner of Penn Avenue and 44th Street."It's fantastic. It's going to do good all over Bloomfield, I hope anyway," said Nick Scuilli, owner of Cump's Super Sub Shop. Some residents are a little apprehensive, saying they're worried about the possibility of heavier traffic, loud ambulances and an increased demand for parking. Hospital employees working weekdays will be told not to park on the hospital campus, and instead use a car lot provided by the hospital a distance away. Some who live nearby argued workers may park on neighborhood streets, but others don't seem to mind.Christina Stein not only lives close to the new hospital, but works nearby. She manages Your Inner Vagabond, a coffee house, and said she believes business will spike."Parking has always been an issue. Especially in Oakland, parking is terrible. I don't think it will effect anyone too terribly they'll just find other places," she said.Down the street at Cump's, Scuilli said he has already seen a difference, saying the employees will boost business.
