The young driver in a violent crash that killed three people and shut down a busy boulevard early last month faced charges Friday night.

Three people died in the crash, in which a car was wrapped around a utility pole in Forest Hills. Two people survived -- a toddler and the driver, Kelly Anne Strouse, 19.

Strouse faced a judge at night court for arraignment on a list of charges stemming from the crash, including three counts of homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and a DUI.

Police reports state Strouse's blood samples analyzed by the forensic lab indicated she had high levels of drugs in her body at the time of the accident. Crash investigators determined Strouse was driving at least 20 miles over the limit.

According to police reports, Strouse was driving down Ardmore Boulevard when she somehow crashed into a pole at about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 4.

Police said two men in their 20s -- Samuel McCoy and Matthew Stojakovich -- were seated in the back seat died at the scene.

A passenger, Jennifer Smith, also in her 20s, was rushed to an area hospital where she later died.

Emergency crews extracted Smith's 4-year-old child from the back seat. She was OK.

A judge denied bond for Strouse, citing her history of substance abuse. She remains in police custody at the Allegheny County Jail until her preliminary hearing on Wednesday afternoon.
