PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Police in Pittsburgh said they used a Taser on hit and run suspect who led them on a chase Thursday morning.According to a news release from the Pittsburgh Police Department, officers responding to a call about a car running into a pole tried to stop the driver of a silver Chrysler Pacifica near South Milvale Avenue.Officers said the car failed to stop and they gave chase. When the driver reached a dead end, he stopped and remained behind the wheel. When officers say they tried to get the driver out of the vehicle, he backed up, almost hitting one of the police officers. Police said the driver then intentionally rammed the police vehicle, injuring the officer inside.
Police say they later spotted the driver's vehicle on Junilla Street, where it hit a parked tow truck. Police said the driver tried to run on foot before he was hit with a Taser.The driver, identified as Raymond Walker, 28, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was checked for any effects from the Taser and then arrested.The officer injured in the collision was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.Walker is facing charges of fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.
