Violence Hotline Program Begins

Tree Of Hope To Help Victims Of Violence

UPDATED: 10:06 p.m. EDT July 16, 2001

The Pittsburgh branch of the NAACP unveiled a new hotline Monday for families of victims of violence in the Pittsburgh area.

There have been 51 homicides in Allegheny County this year. So a coalition of local volunteers, religious leaders and civic groups is taking a stand to eliminate violence by breaking the generational cycle.

The Tree of Hope hotline will provide referrals and crisis response teams as well as bereavement assistance and counseling.

The hotline number is (412) 886-1212.

With a county-wide hotline and law enforcement assistance, operators will line up counseling for grieving families of victims. They can also refer people in need to a church, mosque or synagogue that can help.
