"Without going into detail of the statement that Ms. Snider made, it appeared that alcohol played a role in this incident," said Jack Shea of the FBI's Pittsburgh Division.

Penich was found strangled and stomped to death March 17 in a hotel room in Seoul, South Korea. She had been spending a semester of her junior year studying at Keimyung University in Taegu, South Korea.

Police found a bloody, size 10 boot print at the scene.

Snider is being held in South Central Regional Jail in Charleston, W.Va. She will have an extradition hearing on March 11.
